Is an Outline Really that Important?
An outline really does have an importance if you are creating your own information product. You want to ensure that the information you provide has a clear and concise flow. It can be difficult to write if you don’t place your ideas into an outline format. It would be like driving a car with no idea how to get to your destination and no map to show you the way.
Let me supply you with some basic steps to create an outline:
First thing to be done is to brainstorm ideas for usage in your product. Don’t worry about structure, simply write the ideas that come to mind that would be useful to your target audience. Write down questions like, “Who needs this product” and “Why is this product necessary?” Write as many answers to these questions as possible.
After all, the more information you can provide to show prospects that they simply can not do without your product, the better. You definitely do not want to forget vital information that you neglected to write down as it came to mind.
Now get yourself another sheet of paper. Now it is time to give your ideas focus and structure. Formulate how the information will be placed in the book and start listing your thoughts sequentially.
Your outline should include the following topics:
Introduction
Copyright page
Disclaimer page
Body of the book
Closing
Recommended Resources
The body of the book should be broken down into sections as well, based on the information you are providing. If the information you plan to provide is about Network Marketing, you should have a getting started, marketing your business, closing the sale, etc. If you are providing a how-to manual, break it up into tools needed; take it apart, repair, etc.
For each section that you list in the body of the book, you want to make sure you break each section down further by including the who, what, where, when, and why questions that you noted in your brainstorming session.
Once you have each section complete, you should have a good rough draft. Read through the information and see if flows in a clear and concise manner. You want to ensure you speak to the potential customer in such a way that they will understand and want to keep reading the information through to the end. Have you missed any information; is there anything that is suitable for a different section of your book?
Now, you need to take a break. You have done an excellent job. Allow your mind to rest before you look at this project any further. Give yourself at least a full day to rest before you return. Once you have a clear mind, go back and begin your final copy, and prepare your informational product for sale!
